Tournament pride
2017-11-20Our GCRA teams had lots of success in recent tournaments
Metcalfe Tournament
U09-Watson
Our U9 devils decided to put our 6 and 0 record to the test and participated in this weekend's Metcalfe Tournament. Following the round-robin play we stood atop the leaderboard with 3 strong wins and advanced to the championship game. In the finals, we met up with a strong West Ottawa team and found ourselves down 3-1 after the first period. Our girls regrouped at the break, fought hard and came back to pull off a 5-4 victory to bring home the gold medal! Our girls entered this tournament as strong individual players but left it as a solid team. We're so proud of the players they are becoming!
U10-Dearing
What a weekend it was for our U10 Dearing team who participated in the Metcalfe tournament. The team was in fine form this weekend, and challenged our opponents every game. Three exciting wins brought us to the championship game on Sunday afternoon against CORA-Purves team-a team that’s currently ranked 4th in the overall standings. To say that this game was thrilling would be an understatement. GCRA set the tone for the game with the first two goals but it seemed that CORA would not go down quietly, as they tried to catch up. The first period ended with a close 3-2 lead by GCRA. Heading into the second period, CORA tied it up quickly. Our girls rallied and took the lead, and finished with a 6-5 victory, to bring home the gold!
London Challenge Cup tournament
Two of players from our U19AA team were playing for the United AAA team at this tournament. Congratulations to Cassandra Stewart and Meghan Young who helped the United team win the Silver medal. Meghan was also chosen by her peers & coaches to be a co-Captain of the team.
Oshawa Tournament
We had some of our competitive teams out at this tournament and they all managed to gain points towards their provincial rankings. U12PP-Blue-Billings won two of their ranking games as did U14AA-Mainwood. U16AA-Beaulac won a ranking game, U19A-Lester won two of theirs, and our associated 18+A team the Nutrilawn Panthers won three. Extra congratulations go out to U14AA-Mainwood, U16AA-Beaulac, and the 18+A Nutrilawn Panthers who all won Silver medals at the tournament.
Nepean Tournament
The Nepean tournament is a popular tournament for our GCRA teams. This year, we had 14 teams competing in the tournament. Among the many happenings, several competitive teams won ranking games. U19 - AA Hartley, U16 - AA Beaulac, and U14 - AA Mainwood each won 1 ranking game. U16 - A Drolet and U14 - A Altherr each won 3 ranking games. Finally U12 - PP Red Leemhius won 2 ranking games. Of course the success didn’t end there. U09 – Archer and U14 - B MacMillan both won silver medals at their levels, and U14 - C Lecompte and U14 - AA Mainwood both won all their tournament games which earned them gold medals at their levels.
"Well done" to all the teams who went out to the tournaments, worked hard and did well, and especially to everyone who had fun.
