Gloucester-Cumberland Ringette Association Scholarship
Purpose of the GCRA Scholarship
The GCRA supports, promotes and recognizes the importance of a strong commitment to sports such as ringette combined with academic achievement, volunteer activities and community involvement in the overall social development of our youth.
In recognition of this, the GCRA provides annual scholarships in the amount of $500 to be awarded to up to five ringette players entering their first year of post-secondary studies who have demonstrated a commitment to the sport of ringette through active participation as a player. The player(s) will have also made contributions to the GCRA, their schools and/or their community as a volunteer and have demonstrated a balance between ringette, volunteer activities and school.

Eligibility Criteria
The GCRA invites applications for this scholarship from dedicated ringette players who:
- are entering a recognized post-secondary education institution on a full time
basis for the first time in the fall of the academic year in which the scholarship
applies
- are in their final year of secondary school, or have just completed their final
year of secondary school at the time of application, -
are willing to participate in an interview with the GCRA Scholarship Selection Committee, and
-
have been registered with the GCRA for the last 4 our of 5 years
Application Procedure
Completed applications, with a covering letter, must be submitted to the Scholarship Selection Committee along with the following supporting documentation:
- an essay indicating how your participation in ringette and your volunteer activities in ringette, your community and/or your school has helped your personal development. Also outline how you find balance in your participation in ringette, your volunteer activities and your school requirements.

a résumé of your ringette participation and your volunteer activities in ringette, your community and/or your school,

letters of reference (with a current date) from two individuals who can comment on
- your involvement with ringette as a player; and/or
- your volunteer activities within ringette, your community, your school or
other related activities; and/or - your balancing of ringette participation, volunteer activities and academic activities.
- a transcript of marks for the final year of secondary education,

evidence of admission for full time studies a recognized post-secondary
- education institution such as a university, college or other educational institution.
The completed scholarship application form, the covering letter and all supporting documents must be sent to

and received by the Scholarship Selection Committee on or before June 30th of the current academic year.

All documentation received by the Scholarship Selection Committee becomes the sole property of the GCRA and is strictly confidential.
Selection Process and Announcement
The GCRA Scholarship Selection Committee, comprised of selected members of the GCRA executive and designated volunteers, will review all applications that are received on or before the deadline date. The Scholarship Selection Committee reserves the right to decline the awarding of the scholarship for any given year.
In arriving at a decision, the Selection Committee will consider:
- demonstrated commitment to ringette through participation, contributions to the GCRA, their schools and/or their community as a volunteer,
- how ringette and volunteer activities have had a positive impact on the applicant’s personal development and demonstrated balance between participation in ringette, volunteer activities and school.
To assist in the selection process, the Scholarship Selection Committee may invite applicants to participate in an interview.
The decision of the GCRA Scholarship Selection Committee will be final.
The announcement of the scholarship recipient will be made in September. However, funds will not be released by the GCRA to the scholarship recipient until enrollment at the educational institution has been confirmed for the academic year in which the scholarship has been awarded.
