Ringette Updates - Summer 2021 edition
2021-07-15Read below to learn about important updates that are now implemented / coming that will impact your Ringette season!
COVID Safety Updates
- We are no longer bound to maintain bubbles and cohorts that were implemented as part of COVID restrictions
- We are still bound to any provincial and municipal directives with respect to numbers in facilities, on ice, and social distancing
- We are still mandated to perform COVID screening at this time
Updates to programming
- Tournaments: There will be no tournaments prior to January 2022 (this season only)
- Bunnies through to U10 (Novice)
- These are now referred to as Fun 1, Fun 2, and U10 (Fun 3).

Timing of tryouts and sortouts, conditioning opportunities
- Associations are asked to provide a minimum of 2 conditioning sessions to athletes prior to any tryouts or sortouts.
To meet this objective, GCRA:
- Is running 2 weeks of camp targeting Recreational (U10) to U19, with the U14-U16-U19 geared towards athletes who aspire to play at the A/AA level
- Will offer conditioning sessions prior to the designated tryouts/sortouts at each division/level of play (there will be a delineation between recreational and competitive sessions
- There will be no tryouts prior to September 1st 2021.
- GCRA have ice commencing on September 7th, 2021.

A / AA Championships
- Age groups are U14, U16, U19, 18+
- No more reference to "Provincial", emphasis is on AA and A
- U12A (formerly P) have been moved to the Region Based Championships

- We are still sorting out what U12A will look like, more details to follow. We are assuming that we run tryouts for U12A, this is TBC
- Provincial Level Play - Removed - Now A/AA
- Regional Level Play - Removed - Now B/C
- Provincials - Now "Championships"
- Regionals - Now "Region-Based Championships"
- There are new rules regarding team formation, naming, and integration of males into the sport.
- We are still clarifying some details in the chart in link below.
- We can have female, male, or mixed teams, however, what I understand right now is that they can only play equivalent formations, so this will take coordination.
New Registration tool - RAMP
- As you have seen by now, Registration is open for the 2021/22 season. We are now using RAMP.

Reminder!!!!!!!!!!!
- We are asking our members to complete initial registration ($150 commitment to play) no later than July 23rd 2021, to assist us with ice acquisition
Background on why we are moving to RAMP:
- Ringette Ontario implemented this new registration system in the 2019 season.
- Ringette Canada are also adopting this tool
- All associations in Ontario must have their members register in this tool by the start of the 2022 season
- RAMP will collect the mandatory forms at the onset when you initially register for the season
